Radio as a tool to educate communities

Peter Balaba, Program Manager at Nakaseke Telecentre, in Uganda have shared: "It is true that radios are the best tool to educate the communities, especially in rural areas. We have used the radio to promote education through a School Radio Quiz Competition. Schools are encouraged to bring their pupils to the studio every Sunday and compete. The program runs for a year.

We also use the radio to educate the community about HIV/AIDS and we work with people living with HIV and professional medical workers to educate the community. There is a lot to learn from the experiences these people are going through. We did this because there has been a lot of silence about HIV/AIDS as most NGOs have left the area and their was a belief that AIDS had healed!"
